Policy & Procedure Manual 2007-2008

Stipend

$41,700--first year 
$42,888--second year 
$44,604--third year

Vacation

3 weeks per year (includes week at Christmas)

Holidays

7 paid holidays per year

Educational Leave

1 week per year, with $1,000 travel allowance (2nd & 3rd years); 1,000 for purchase of medical books, pda, etc.(1st year)

Health Insurance

Blue Cross/Blue Shield policy for resident provided at minimal cost; coverage for dependents available through the University Benefits Office

Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance

Provided

Term Life Insurance

$50,000--is provided

Malpractice Insurance

$1 million/$3 million occurrence-type policy provided

Disability Insurance

Residency may purchase through AAFP

Licensure

All fees required for Alabama state licensure provided including DEA and USMLE Step 3

Professional Organizations

Dues provided for organizations that the resident is required to join (American Academy of Family Physicians, Alabama Academy of Family Physicians, hospital medical staff)

Relocation Monies

With appropriate receipts, up to $2,500 provided

Education Grant

Immediate family members may attend the University of Alabama for half tuition after six months of employment.

Meals

Provided while on call ($85.00 per month)

 

In addition, staff members of The University of Alabama may use services provided by the Alabama Credit Union, receive a staff discount for all University athletic events, and may use the University's recreational facilities.   

Tuscaloosa Family Practice Residents' Association

The Tuscaloosa Family Practice Residency Association (TFPRA) is a social organization and advocacy group for the residents. All residents are members and expected to pay dues. The dues structure will be provided yearly by the TFPRA officers. Meetings are held weekly, usually on Wednesdays at 12:15 pm in the residents' lounge with lunch provided.

Activities

1. Weekly meetings with lunch provided, all residents are        encouraged to attend.
2. Seasonal Parties (Halloween, Christmas, Lampoon)
3. Journal Club
4. Educational dinners are provided by pharmaceutical

company representatives.
